Cell Phone Pouch

This year for Christmas, we bought my mother-in-law a cell phone, adding her line to our plan. I told her I'd make her a cell phone pouch, so she'd be able to keep her phone with her while gardening, etc. I did an online search for free patterns, and found one I liked. This design is by Susan Brubaker Knapp, and the instructions can be found HERE.
I'm not a quilter, though someday I'd like to try one. This project involved some random piecing that I found a little awkward for my brain to process. I'm going to have to look for some tutorials on crazy piecing now.

Anyway, I think the pouch turned out pretty well despite my *issues*. I still need to find a carabiner that complements the fabric.

While working on this project, I discovered that my newer Bernina (Artista 165) doesn't have a free motion embroidery foot. My older Bernina (model 1230) does, but my mom is using that machine right now. I think I'll order some feet today. I've never used a walking foot, but I've heard it's a must-have item.

That looks great! Oh yes, do get a walking foot. It's so useful to be able to match stripes, plaids as well as quilt straight lines without any bubbles. But I've never heard of carabiner. What's that?

Thanks Ladies,

A caribiner is a metal clasp-like thing that climbers use. They're used for other purposes, too, and I'd use this one to clip the pouch to a purse strap or belt loop, etc. They come in lots of colors and sizes. You can see one on the link to the pattern.

Off to shop for feet...

Hi Deanna
For the ultimate crazy directions I think you would be hard pressed to beat

On the right side of the page is a whole list of sources and eye candy.
Be careful it is addictive

Oops! Watch out, Deanna. That't how a person gets snagged into becoming a quilter. Looks like you're well on your way. Have fun! Oh, and your pouch is wonderful!

My walking foot is on its way (yay!). I think I'll buy the embroidery foot from The Calico Cat in Auburn (Washington) when I'm there in a couple months to teach.

Peta~ thanks so much for the heads-up on the pintangle site - what a wealth of information!

Orice~ for some reason, I've bought several quilting books over the years, probably because the pictures are so pretty. I should get them out again and try one!

Thanks so much for posting the link for this pouch! My teen DD has been after me since Christmas to make her a holder for her new cell phone. I especially like the caribiner clip, those make it easy to clip stuff to most anything. Best, Ani
