The Great Procrastinator

Just how in the world did this happen, anyway? Why can't I finish these projects?

Here are MOST of my unfinished dolls, in various stages of completion. I did not include assorted arms, legs, and unstuffed pieces (or projects that have not yet been started).

Now you see why I resolved to complete my unfinished projects. I can almost envision what it would feel like to have everything done...almost.

I don't work today, though we may play some music with friends tonight, and yet I just don't know where to start.

It may be logical to work on "Tavia," the girl with the curly brown hair. She just needs clothing. Or perhaps the guy with the beard. He, too, needs the rest of his clothing and shoes (and a few wizard-like accessories).

Perhaps my anxiety about where to start is what causes me to begin new projects instead (I can feel the tempation to start a new project, and am trying to resist). I'd like to participate in some of the on-line challenges, but to do so would make me feel guilty.

Nope...I think I'll work on Tavia. Off to pick the fabrics for her clothing...

I would love to see the lovely full figured brown doll on the left done. How are your faces made, they are just wonderful!

Hello, SuSaw~
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment/question. I used a variety of techniques to make the faces on the dolls shown. Some are simply sewn and stuffed heads that are needle sculpted with thread.

The features of a couple of those have been painted with acrylic paint. A couple others were painted all over with gesso, Messy Mix, then acrylic paints.

A couple have clay faces that have been covered in knit fabric.

One (center, back) is a cloth face that was sculpted, then another layer of knit fabric was placed over that.

I get bored doing the same thing, so like to vary my technique from doll to doll.

Please let me know if you have more questions or need me to clarify anything.

Thanks!
Deanna

I wish I only had that many ufo's. :D I get bored very quickly with projects so am always starting something new. I really need some organizing and finishing help! Good luck to you. I love to see your dolls.

I can see that you stopped with each creation at a point when it needed more "thinking". But sometimes too much thinking gets in the way of completing. I have about 10-12 creations in progress if I count paintings.

My dad has always said, "Perfectionism is the enemy of progress."

I just have to laugh! You have made me feel much, much better about all the dolls I have yet to complete because I am frequently called away to do another quick project as a gift for a birthday, anniversary or Christmas! So, I end up giving away much more than I finish for myself and have very little to show for my efforts! I know how it is, Deanna. But, when the dolls we leave to finish for another day are good ones, we KNOW (even through temptation!) we will eventually get back to finishing them...but we simply need to find that inspiration once again that helped us to begin the creation of those precious incomplete masterpieces. Can't wait to see your completed dolls! I know you will do it, dear Lady. They are, as all your work is, very beautiful. God bless!

I have an even better idea. Mount them all on a piece of plywood "as is", and call it an installation. Make a statement about the "deep meaning" of the piece, and leave it at that. People will think you are brilliant, and you will be DONE!...lol.
I used to get bored with my projects until I started doll making. This wonderful art form holds my attention! I am working on learning clay sculpture now, so a whole world is opening up.

I say give the gal in the middle with the big smile on her face a chance to come to life...she looks like she has something wonderful to say!

I too see unfinished projects and get overwhelmed...it happens to all of us I think.

Best of luck with them all..I know they will be fantastic.

Take care,
Doreen
