Harvest Moon Class

I taught my first in-home class this weekend. I had three students, and sewed along with them. What a pleasure, not having to lug all my stuff to a different location (and hope I didn't forget anything!)

From left to right are Roxanne, Ginger, and Rhoda. Wish I could say the dolls were completed in class, but we were able to focus on the trapunto style face (and attaching it to the head), the hinge joints, the shoes, and the face sculpting and painting.I also shared my "system" of logging/recording the dolls I've made. From my very first doll, they've all been recorded in a notebook. Each doll/entry is numbered and dated. The entries in the log include a description of the doll, the pattern used, size, etc. Once the doll's been sold or given away, the entry is highlighted yellow.

In about 2004, I saw a similar journal up for auction on eBay. This was Edith Flack Ackley's journal, and she included a little snippet of the fabric she used for each doll's dress by their corresponding entries. I thought that was a great idea, and started doing that myself.

Awww...that looks like a super fun time! I don't know where you live, but I bet I don't live anywhere close enough! I know I'd have loved to be there!

Those ladies will probably still finish their dolls, especially since they took the class! I look forward to seeing pics of their finished looks! It's so interesting how different the dolls look even using the same pattern. I have enlarged your Harvest Moon pattern, but haven't gotten to it yet...maybe it will be a Christmas doll, lol!

OMGosh Deanna - I just need to follow you around and do what you do and I'd be uber-organized. I have meant to start a book like that but I've sold loads of dolls and if I'm lucky I can find a picture of them. But I should start now, right?

Am looking forward to your clay doll. I'm heading to my sewing room now to work on some things. :-)

It was fun ~ I'm going to have to do it again. I think this doll would make a great Christmas doll. I can even see a sweet witch, using some of the fun Halloween fabrics out now, or an angel. It wouldn't be hard to add wings.

Dixie ~ you might THINK I'm uber-organized, but it's just a facade. I do like the book, though - and you should start one ASAP. It gives me a sense of satisfaction to see all the dolls I've made, and to see where they've gone. I'm up to doll number 384 now (but some of the early dolls were mighty primitive).

I wonder who bought that journal of Edyth Flack Ackley's? Good for you! I bet your class was fun.
