Earlier this month, I signed up for a free Block of the Month class at Craftsy.com. The asterix is on the left, and the wonky pound sign on the right. I've never done something like this, and as I'm a pretty linear person, the future unknown and different blocks are causing me a little stress. I thought I'd add a sneak preview of this year's Santa doll. A photo of the finished doll won't go up until after the party/auction, but I will tell you which pattern I'm using. I'm making some progress on my DIP, and at this point, I think It wants to be a Boy. Up to this point, I've done no sanding and all the sculpting has been done with my fingers. I worked on my Hoffman doll all day yesterday, and got quite a bit done. Much of the time was spent making little yo-yo flowers to put on her skirt. Bingo! This is the same fabric I bought at Fabric Depot several years ago ( "powder" color). Now I've got nearly 8 yards of beautiful skin tone fabric for dolls with the powder and cameo shades. Here's a photo of the two fabrics side-by-side.  Maybe I should order one of the ethic shades, too. The "cameo" fabric I ordered has arrived, and I compared it to what I've been using. The cameo is just a little darker than what I've been using, and would also work very well for doll skin. After looking at the photos on the Hingeley website (link in previous post), the stuff I bought at the Fabric Depot may have been the "powder" color, as shown below.

It's been a challenge to find the time to work on little Fiona's doll (made from a 1933 pattern). Yesterday I was able to stuff and attach the arms, but it was a mystery to me how to stuff the arms (and legs) enough to fill them out, but allow for some movement. So there's not much movement. It's an unusually frigid day here in Astoria and since the furnace has decided to work only intermittently, my studio is one of the warmer rooms in the house. Well, I guess those errands last week were a bit more involved than I'd expected, and my doll did NOT get done like I'd hoped. I was able to work on her yesterday and today, and just finished. I don't think I'll get a start on number 3 tonight, but I've got everything ready to go.

It's pretty clear my productivity in the doll department has come to a halt. Just too much to do and too little time. This is Averill number 2 (of the 4 I've got lined up). Today was perfect for the 29th annual Great Columbia Crossing. Last year was clear and cool. This year's overcast skies made for a slightly warmer day.
