My doll for the Annual Joint Meeting of Eugene (Oregon) area doll clubs is finished. She really doesn't look anything like a Madame Alexander doll, but was fun to make none-the-less.
Her dress and panties are removeable, and her shoes are purchased. Her wig was sewn to her head. I've made myself crazy looking for my baggie of about 50 mini hair clips purchased not too long ago. I swear I'm getting senile. I hope I just stuck them somewhere *safe* (worst case scenario, they fell into the waste basket next to my sewing machine...)
Sweet and serene, Deanna. I'm leaving today for the US - wish I was going to Oregon so I could look you up!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Susie
Hi Susie,
ReplyDeleteI sure wish you were visiting this side of the country, too. I'm sorry I'll miss seeing you. Maybe next time, huh?
I'd love the opportunity to not only meet you, but take a class from you as well. Your dolls are absolute perfection, and I know I could learn a lot!
Have fun, and have a very safe trip~
Deanna
She's adorable. Love her face.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your annual joint meeting.
She's lovely. so delicate and feminine.
ReplyDeleteI like the loose look of her wig, and in general the overall softness and feminine impression she gives. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteYour face painting wows me every time.
ReplyDeleteShe is very cute Deanna. I know what you mean about looking for things....I have been on the hunt for my bag of hand dyed lace...it is hiding very well, I too am afraid it may have fallen in the waste basket..and the idea of that is upsetting!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your joint meeting!
Love,
Nita
Thanks, gals. The face painting on this one is really pretty simple, without all that shading that my other dolls have. Refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI hope there are a lot of other cloth Madame Alexander inspired dolls there. I'd love to see how everyone accomplished that! I leave the day after tomorrow, and always have such a nice time at Jean's house. Gotta remember to pick up some wine.
Still haven't found my mini hair clips. I'm going crazy...
Deanna
I LOVE this doll Deanna!! She reminds me of a doll I had as a child - I think it's the hair...hmmm. Can you let me know the style/company of wig you used? Best, Ani
ReplyDeleteHi Ani~
ReplyDeleteThank you! The wig is by Global Dolls Corporation, Model "Honey," size 9-10 in a strawberry blonde color. It's actually not a full wig, but 3/4 cap or something like that. I got it on eBay.
For those who don't know, I started a doll log, numbering and describing each doll, from the very first doll I made. I'm now up to number 372. For the past couple years, I've added little swatches of the fabric I used to each doll's entry. I also included the wig tag on this particular page.

Oh my goodness! I found your site (then blog) by reading a fellow corsetmakers question about dolls being used to display new corset designs, searching cloth dolls, then I found your lovely creations. My 7 yr old sitting next to me "squeed" at your luncheon doll. It takes to skill to impress both an adult and a child with the same piece of art. Lovely work! BTW, what is her name? A doll w/that much soul must have a name...? Have you read "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane?" It is a must read for any dollmaker, or anyone who has once loved a doll or stuffed toy. It is a very profound tale.
ReplyDeleteGoodness. Your comment made me realize I never named this doll. Shame on me!
ReplyDeleteAfter some consideration, she is now named "April."
I'm so glad you've been exploring the world of dolls (cloth dolls rule, btw!).
I've not read the book in question, but I can assure you I'm on my way to amazon.com right now to look it up. I love to read, and am looking forward to "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane."
Thanks again,
Deanna
