I want to give her some flip-flops or something, and there's still some coloring to do around the edges, I think. She's a little more pouty than I'd intended, but maybe that tells me something.
Almost there!

I grew up on a farm. When I was pretty young, 7 or 8 or so, I noticed that there was the most beautiful puppy I had ever seen hanging around the edge of our yard, very near the tree line. I mean, truly, the most beautiful puppy... and, being as we always seemed to welcome stray animals to our fold (and we had a great many who had once been strays), I began seeing if I could entice it to become a permanent resident.
ReplyDeleteEvery day, very early, I'd wake and take out food. Every day the puppy would be there waiting. Eventually I started sitting longer by the food after I put it out to see if the puppy would come closer. It did, and eventually I got to pet it.
The sweet puppy was very skiddish at first, I'd expected it to be, this wasn't my first "adoption" of a local stray critter, but eventually we became fast friends. When it became apparent that this beautiful creature would likely become a member of our brood I named her Cici.
One morning I was sitting with CiCi on the porch swing, gently swaying back and forth, scratching her ears and cooing lovingly to her when my mother happened to come out. To say she was shocked to see me petting a small fox was is a tad of an understatement.
I guess we ran into one another at just the right time... the vet thought she had probably lost her mother, and was just trying to find food to survive. I needed something to love me as much as she needed someone to love her, so it was a match made in heaven.
Your page reminds me very much of her and I, so I am just loving it!
Thanks so much for posting your story here, June. I love it! Foxes have always fascinated me - though I've only very rarely seen one in the wild.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story that is! Deanna, I think she is coming out lovely, although I like her in bare feet. Looking good!
ReplyDeleteJune befriending a fox! I can SO see that happening. LOL! Snakes love her too..... :)
ReplyDeleteI like the bare feet too. I know your not finished but does she seem a little brighter than everything else in the picture? Is that what you intended?
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! The girl does appear to be a little brighter in the photo - although nothing I did here was intentional (as I have no idea what I'm doing), and haven't thought ahead too much as I worked on this page. I finished it this morning and photographed it at the kitchen table which works better especially considering the lighting in my studio.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite pleased with how it turned out, and loved the process. I strayed quite a bit from Tam's lesson in terms of the animal and girl, but I think this is more in keeping with my style - which seems to be developing over time.
