I've been working on a Day of the Dead doll from one of the body design prototypes. This was has been quite a challenge for me! She has a Paperclay sculpted head, and the painting has been tedious.
I haven't given much thought to her costuming yet, but have lots of potential ideas.
I think her face still needs some embellishment and shading.
Experimenting with brass rod and tube to make doll removable from stand and able to sit, too. Used a larger knitting needle to make the channel. Used a smaller knitting needle that fit the size of the tube to insert the tube into the body.
Tube is inserted and nearly flush with the bottom of the doll.
Sliding the doll onto the rod.
Perfect!
Hair is done, and will be embellished with silk roses.
Her blouse and skirt are essentially done. I till need to add roses to her hair and find some black lace or netting that drapes nicely to use for her shawl.
And Liliana is done!
She turned out great❤️
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you use to cut the tube so it doesn't crimp on one end?
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy,
ReplyDeleteI used my husband’s vise to gently hold the tube, then used a hack saw to cut through it, taking my time to avoid distorting it. Not a lot of pressure, just the gentle sawing motion. When I was researching the various tubes/rods, I chose brass because it’s stiffer and less malleable than copper. I found sources on Amazon and Etsy.
I found the tubes and rods on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FZS27O4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - more expensive than the rods.
