ODACA Helper Doll 2022

I've been working on my Anne of Green Gables doll, but have put her on hold while I make a doll for ODACA Day. I won't be attending this year, but will send the doll on for the raffle held at the ODACA Luncheon.

This is a new design I've been working on, with the intention of making a formal pattern. This doll is one of four prototypes.

I've named her Elora:

Annie Oakley

I'm finally done with my Annie Oakley doll, though I may still keep an eye open for small charms, beads, etc., that may represent some of her medals. She has a brass tube inserted into her torso, so is easily removable from her stand. I'm pretty happy with her.

She is the first of three prototypes.

Prototype Modifications

I've made further adjustments to the original three prototypes:

Liliana (Day of the Dead)
Pippa (Sailor Girl)
Ruby (Izannah Walker style)

The next three prototypes have been exercises in fabric variation and stretch direction.

These two are made from cotton woven fabric with the stretch direction (cross-grain) horizontal on the doll on the left, and vertical on the doll on the right:

I also made one from a knit fabric (craft velour, I think) using a vertical stretch direction. The doll on the left will be Annie Oakley. The middle doll will be Anne of Green Gables. I haven't decided who the doll on the right will be. These dolls are a little smaller than the original three prototypes.

I've made some progress on Annie Oakley. She's now situated on her stand. I made a leather strap for her rifle. Next I tackle her hat. That's going to be a challenge!

Now I've moved on to Anne of Green Gables:

Day of the Dead

I've been working on a Day of the Dead doll from one of the body design prototypes. This was has been quite a challenge for me! She has a Paperclay sculpted head, and the painting has been tedious.

I haven't given much thought to her costuming yet, but have lots of potential ideas.

I think her face still needs some embellishment and shading.

Experimenting with brass rod and tube to make doll removable from stand and able to sit, too. Used a larger knitting needle to make the channel. Used a smaller knitting needle that fit the size of the tube to insert the tube into the body.

Tube is inserted and nearly flush with the bottom of the doll.

Sliding the doll onto the rod.

Perfect!

Hair is done, and will be embellished with silk roses.

Her blouse and skirt are essentially done. I till need to add roses to her hair and find some black lace or netting that drapes nicely to use for her shawl.

And Liliana is done!

Pippa

This is "Pippa." She is made from one of the three design prototypes I've been working in (Pippa is number 2, but I'm not working in order).

She is a cloth-over-clay doll, and is about 13-1/2 to 14 inches tall. Her clothing is removable.

"Ruby" is the first of the three prototypes I finished (though she was prototype #3). You can see her here: http://blueherondolls.blogspot.com/2021/07/ruby.html
